A fully equal participation of indigenous representatives relative to member state delegates at the UN World Conference on Indigenous Peoples (WCIP) in 2014 is a crucial point of this high-level meeting planned by the UN. By means of these words, Greenland Premier Kuupik Kleist said in his opening speech at the Indigenous Peoples’ Brainstorming Meeting on the 13^th and 14^th of January in Copenhagen, Denmark.

The Government of Greenland, the Sámi Parliament in Norway and the International Work Group of Indigenous Affairs (IWGIA) co-organised the brainstorming meeting.  The event was described as an important lead-up to the 2014 WCIP to be held in conjunction with the UN General Assembly of that year.
