    Indigenous Brainstorming in Copenhagen

    A fully equal participation of indigenous representatives relative to member state delegates at the UN World Conference on Indigenous Peoples (WCIP) in 2014 is a crucial point of this high-level meeting planned by the UN. By means of these words, Greenland Premier Kuupik Kleist said in his opening speech at the Indigenous Peoples’ Brainstorming Meeting on the 13th and 14th of January in Copenhagen, Denmark.

    The Government of Greenland, the Sámi Parliament in Norway and the International Work Group of Indigenous Affairs (IWGIA) co-organised the brainstorming meeting.  The event was described as an important lead-up to the 2014 WCIP to be held in conjunction with the UN General Assembly of that year.
